All three senior sides secured great wins this weekend in scorching conditions! The 1st XI visited Westbury, won the toss and unsurprisingly decided to bat first. Chippenham scored 278-5 in their 50 overs. Tom Young and Rob Woodman got Chippenham off to a great start with a 108 run opening partnership. Rob Woodman scored 52 and Tom Young 33. This was then backed up by Rich Coughtrie 70 not out, Rich Bates 28, and Paul Clifford 39. In reply Westbury started the innings strongly and scored 75 for the first wicket. They then progressed to 193-2. Some excellent bowling from Paul Clifford (5 wickets), Rob Woodman (2 wickets) Rich Bates (1 wicket) and Tom Freegard (2 wickets) put Westbury under a lot of pressure and Westbury were bowled out for 248. A great 30 run win for Chippenham on a fantastic batting track.
The 2nd XI entertained Weston Super Mare at home. Weston batted first and scored 233-5 in their 45 overs. Mark Hannah took 2 wickets and Courtney Earl, Steve Merryweather and Sam Wild took 1 wicket each. In reply, Chippenham knocked off the runs for 3 wickets in 43 overs. Nick Pocock and George Sykes were the pick of the Chippenham batsman scoring 72 and 70 runs each. Hughey Pike then chipped in with 35no. A fantastic 7 wicket win for the 2's!
The 3rd XI travelled to Burbage 2nd XI.Chippenham batted first and scored 203 for 9. Mike Oliver scored 63, Chris Harrison 43 and Kallan George 37no. In reply Chippenham bowled Burbage out for 155. Young leg spinner Pav Lochab got 5-45, Kallan George topped his 37no out with the bat with bowling figures of 3-24 and Andy Cozens got 2-40 in his first game back for Chippenham. A fantastic win!
A fantastic weekend of cricket for the senior teams! |

To all clubs in WEPL and the 4 Feeder Leagues (Bristol & District, Gloucestershire, Somerset & Wiltshire).
A meeting was held on April 27th with WEPL, the 4 Feeder Leagues and CDMs in attendance. The meeting was chaired by Paul Bedford, ECB’s Head of Non-First Class Cricket, its purpose was to discuss the possible restructuring of Senior League Cricket in the 3 counties, with all relevant parties present and able to voice their opinions.
The meeting was fruitful and the upshot is that a working group has been set up to move things along, the first meeting will take place on 24th May. The group will consist of a representative from WEPL, each Feeder League and the 3 County Board CDMs, it will be chaired in the first instance by Paul Bedford. A terms of reference has been established for this group in which the key objectives are:
1. To create a new League structure for clubs currently in the West of England Premier League that minimizes travelling and provides fully competitive cricket for all 2nd (and 3rd and 4th XIs)
2. To bring all divisions that cover just one county under the jurisdiction of the appropriate “County” League and Board
3. If possible create a structure where all divisions in WEPL and the County Leagues have a known number of promotions and relegations at the start of the season.
The aim is to have any new structure agreed in principal by October 2010, following consultation during the season. The Working Group will distribute detailed proposals, including timescales, to all clubs when decided. These are early days, so NO decisions on a possible format have been made.
Once a final format has been agreed by the Working Group all clubs will have the opportunity to attend a detailed presentation on the new structure. League officers as well as county board staff and officials will be on hand to meet with clubs, either collectively or individually, to answer any queries. |

The 1st XI entertained league newcomers Ashcott and Shapwick from Somerset on Saturday and secured their first win of the league season. Chippenham batted first and scored 289 from their 50 overs. Tim Rowson and Andrew Wilson scored 72 each in a great 150 run partnership. This was followed up by Rich Bates, Paul Clifford and Paul Bates who scored 28, 27 and 20 respectively. Ashcott and Shapwick made a good start in reply before opener Dan Rudge was bowled by Chippenham off-spinner Trevor Lloyd. Shortly after, the new batsman was stumped by John Rumble off the bowling of Rich Bates. An excellent piece of fielding from Paul Clifford ran out the other opener with a direct hit on the stumps. There was then a steady fall of wickets including a fantastic hat trick from Paul Clifford. Firstly, S Edmunds was trapped LBW, followed by Hayman who was caught by John Rumble and then Higgs was bowled. A tidy spell of spin bowling from Rob Woodman contributed well and Andrew Wilson's short bowling spell resulted in a further wicket. Lee Ward's second spell also resulted in a wicket when L Edmunds was caught by John Rumble. Unfortunately, despite very attacking bowling and fielding, Chippenham were unable to take the final wicket. Ashcott and Shapwick finished on 232-9. An excellent 57 run win for Chippenham. Next week Chippenham travel to Westbury. |

We have had one Wednesday coaching session this season which was well attended with 60 kids. It is clear we do need an extra coach each week from the Senior section to help out with the coaching. On a rota basis this would mean approx twice a season. Please can you let me know a couple of Wednesdays that you can make so we can provide excellent and safe coaching for the kids. It is essential we have the cover as we have the clubmark grading this season.
Thanks
Steve Richardson
