Chippenham CC was established in 1885 and since then has been a major part of Wiltshire, Western League and now ECB West of England Premier League Cricket. The club, in its past, has had some very successful periods, being the top club around, and have won many a trophy and league. The club is now looking to establish themselves once more as the leading force in Cricket in the South West and this will be done through hard work and continuous development with the talented young cricketers that the club is currently producing.

Our senior 1st XI side will be playing in West of England Premier Division 2 this season and is therefore looking forward to playing at a high level of club cricket at venues in Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. This means that in the pyramid system we are only 1 promotion away from playing Premier League Division 1 cricket again, something that I strongly believe we will achieve in the next 4 years. With our senior sides giving youngsters the opportunity to play at weekends, we are attracting more to play at the club; this in turn means that we need to provide better practice facilities and more qualified coaches and we are currently in negotiations with Chippenham Town Council for another pitch in the town. The 2nd XI side won promotion last year and this year will be competing in the Premier 1 2nd XI competition. This is a great position for the club as it narrows the gap between 1st XI and 2nd XI cricket

As well as working towards building a strong senior section we are fully committed to the junior section of the club and run coaching nights every Wednesday and Thursday during the summer. This is organised and delivered by a large youth committee, boasting 20+ qualified coaches and fields 5 sides, between U9 and U15 in league and cup competitions. We have worked hard to achieve Clubmark, which is awarded to clubs by the ECB who look after their youth sections by providing a safe, structured and organised club with qualified and CRB checked coaches, along with ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children while at the club.

The club, boasting over 150 playing and social members, is very forward thinking with a strong management committee and sub committees; looking to move the club forwards both on and off the pitch. In 2008 Chippenham CC will be fielding 4 senior Saturday sides, a senior Sunday team as well as sides to play in mid week Twenty20 cup competitions.

We received our award in 2004 and are due for re-accreditation again this year. We are also 1 of only 14 ECB Focus Clubs in Wiltshire, which again further emphasizes the standard of the club.

The aim of club is to provide the means by which any cricketers, or would be cricketers, in North Wiltshire can achieve their potential regardless of their ability, gender or age.

Chippenham Cricket Club is very active with local schools and other sports clubs.

We currently use facilities at Sheldon School in Chippenham for the home fixtures for our 3rd and 4th XI teams. We use the indoor sports centre at Sheldon for indoor winter coaching and nets.

We have regular associations with Hardenhuish Secondary school. The local primary schools in the Chippenham area all attend our weekly Kwik Cricket League.

It is with deep sadness that I have to report that Kenny Vaz passed away this morning. He had a fall at home yesterday and was evacuated by air ambulance. Sadly, he passed away this morning in hospital. Kenny was very dedicated to Chippenham Cricket Club as an umpire and groundsman. He will be very sadly missed by everyone at the club. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

Chippenham CC stars past and present gathered on Saturday to honour Robert Gwilt who has retired after over 50 years as the official First XI scorer. Rob,who was born in Hartlepool, scored for the first time on August Bank Holiday 1953 during a Second XI match against local rivals Westinghouse. He soon graduated to the Firsts and last year completed 57 consecutive seasons having scored over 2,000 games in that period. An estimated 120 people attended the celebration including Chippenham's former Hampshire great David Turner; past Captains Willy Jones, Ian Merryweather, Trevor Bates  and Steve Silk, and Wiltshire CCC Chairman John Collins. To all clubs in WEPL and the 4 Feeder Leagues (Bristol & District, Gloucestershire, Somerset & Wiltshire).

A meeting was held on April 27th  with WEPL, the 4 Feeder Leagues and CDMs in attendance. The meeting was chaired by Paul Bedford, ECB’s Head of Non-First Class Cricket,  its purpose was to discuss the possible restructuring of Senior League Cricket in the 3 counties, with all relevant parties present and able to voice their opinions.

The meeting was fruitful and the upshot is that a working group has been set up to move things along, the first meeting will take place on 24th May. The group will consist of a representative from WEPL, each Feeder League and the 3 County Board CDMs, it will be chaired in the first instance by Paul Bedford. A terms of reference has been established for this group in which the key objectives are:

1.       To create a new League structure for clubs currently in the West of England Premier League that minimizes travelling and provides fully competitive cricket for all 2nd (and 3rd and 4th XIs)

2.       To bring all divisions that cover just one county under the jurisdiction of the appropriate “County” League and Board

3.       If possible create a structure where all divisions in WEPL and the County Leagues have a known number of promotions and relegations at the start of the season.

The aim is to have any new structure agreed in principal by October 2010, following consultation during the season. The Working Group will distribute detailed proposals, including timescales, to all clubs when decided. These are early days, so NO decisions on a possible format have been made.

Once a final format has been agreed by the Working Group all clubs will have the opportunity to attend a detailed presentation on the new structure. League officers as well as county board staff and officials will be on hand to meet with clubs, either collectively or individually, to answer any queries.
